Luke's Change: an Inside Job
I believe that Ben Kenobi (or someone acting for him), killed Luke's Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru.
Up until their death, Luke only wanted to leave the planet because he was bored and didn't relish the thought of moisture farming for the rest of his life, had he joined the rebel alliance in that state of mind, he wouldn't last long, or would have seen war for the unglamorous act that it is and returned home. It was only after Owen & Beru's death did Luke get fired up into joining the Alliance, and opened his mind up to the Force.
