My Dog

You look at me with eyes of love;
you never hold a grudge,
You think I'm far too wonderful
to criticize or judge.
It seems your greatest joy in life
is being close to me.
I think God knew how comforting
Your warm, soft fur would be.
I know you think you're human,
But I'm glad it isn't true.
The world would be a nicer place
If folks were more like you!
A few short years are all we have;
One day we'll have to part.
But you, my pet, will always have
A place within my heart.

At ease and Kiwanis

It's been a nice week so far. I feel very relaxed. Nothing has really been bothering me. It was nice to go to Kiwanis tonight at Marla's, even though I had to run the meeting, since all the club officers went missing. My neighbor, Jason joined tonight which is great. He's a good guy and lots of fun. I'm looking foreword to working with him. He comes up with some funny stuff sometimes. All the people in Kiwanis are great people, I guess that comes with joining an organization that is looking to making a positive difference and serve the community. When I spoke tonight about recruiting people into Kiwanis, I told them that the club and people just sell themselves to good people and to go and ask and people will come. Ask and they will come it's like that baseball movie with Kevin Costner. We'll ask and good people will come and join. I really believe that. I think that alot of people out in the community are just waiting to be ask and introduced to Kiwanis. I have a goal to recruit at least five new members this year. One down with Jason and four more to go.

The school day is over.

We had a large windfall that I didn't know was coming and Debbie offered to let me by a new PC, but I just can't myself to do it with another child or two coming into to our house, possibly soon. It will have to wait, every dog has his day. I am going to buy a video camera though. I need to do some research and figure out what I want to buy. Her offer to buy that PC sure did make me feel good though. Izzy isn't feeling well tonight and she had a pretty rough night last night. She's getting better though and hopefully she sleeps well tonight.

Nice day today

Things went really well for me today. School was nice. The kids all behaved and I was able to teach a good lesson. This evening I went to my Kiwanis meeting at Marla's and really enjoyed myself. I'm trying to be good to myself and treat myself alittle better. I think that when I get down it's because I just haven't been paying enough attention to taking care of myself. I do feel like i need to do something different. Break out and just do something. I am too normal and set in my ways.

Doesn't it just make you angry when you work hard for a few days looking foreword to an event, and it's pushed aside by others and completely forgotten about. Like today! I should have known better to expect much. I'll forget about it and just look for something else to do. I should just stop planning and do my own thing. Sorry about the posting, I'm just angry and getting it out.

A nice dinner with friends

It seems like forever since I've been to dinner with my friends from Kiwanis. The meal was fair, but the company was great. I really like some of the guys alot. Intelligent, interested, thoughtful and funny conversation. It's nice to be around some people I can relax with. It seems like things have just piled up and I haven't been able to go much this Summer. It's true of AA also. I think I've suffered because of that. Lately it seems like I just don't have much to look forward to. Mild depression, lack of sleep, not eating right, anger, loneliness a combination of everything. I'll have to work on that, but tonight was nice and I'm thankful for it. I felt really good leaving Marla's after dinner and the meeting. Kiwanis is a good thing ad I'm proud I'm a member. Too bad I don't know more people that would belong to a group like that.

Today

It's been a real nice week so far even though I've been on jury duty all week. I haven't had to go in to the courts, but I've had to call in each night to see if I needed to appear the next morning in court in downtown Riverside. My kids at school have been really cool. I think it'll be a good year if things don't change.

Conformity

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. ~Dr. Seuss

The first few weeks of school.

it's been pretty busy for me these first few weeks of the new school year. I'm teaching three classes of 8th grade Social Studies, one class of Math Support (math for kids that are WAY behind) and one Study Skills class. This week I've had Jury duty and I've had to call in each night to see if I am wanted at the court. That's so I can drive to Riverside, sit all day and then get dismissed for not being a fair and impartial juror. So everyday I have to make substitute plans and then call, only to be told that I have to wait another day. It's really nice of them to do that. It just burns me up. Like I can sit on a jury. I wouldn't believe a word being said by the defense. It would e California's first Death Penalty case for petty theft. But enough of the ranting about that. Izzy is doing well and talking up a storm. She repeats everything, I really have to watch my mouth. She's really been attached to her mom alot also. I've been pretty content with things although I really think I need a 'mentor" of sorts to help me make some work related decisions. I've thought about a really nice guy in the Optimist club that is on the school board here in town and he used to be a principal in the Adventist school system. A pretty sharp guy that would give me some good advice. I'll have to think about it though. I feel like I'm loosing direction lately at work, maybe it's just a lack of interest. Debbie and Britty are both fine and things seem to be going well with Britty's first first few days of her Senior year.

Rank and Organization: Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army, Company K, 148th Infantry, 37th Infantry Division. Place and Date Manila, Luzon, Philippine Islands, 5 February 1945. Entered Service at: Ukiah, Calif. Birth: Bayside, Calif. G.O. No.: 92, 25 October 1945.

Citation:
He displayed conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty. Forced by the enemy's detonation of prepared demolitions to shift the course of his advance through the city, he led the 1st platoon toward a small bridge, where heavy fire from 3 enemy pillboxes halted the unit. With 2 men he crossed the bridge behind screening grenade smoke to attack the pillboxes. The first he knocked out himself while covered by his men's protecting fire; the other 2 were silenced by 1 of his companions and a bazooka team which he had called up. He suffered a painful wound in the right arm during the action. After his entire platoon had joined him, he pushed ahead through mortar fire and encircling flames. Blocked from the only escape route by an enemy machinegun placed at a street corner, he entered a nearby building with his men to explore possible means of reducing the emplacement. In 1 room he found civilians huddled together, in another, a small window placed high in the wall and reached by a ladder. Because of the relative positions of the window, ladder, and enemy emplacement, he decided that he, being left-handed, could better hurl a grenade than 1 of his men who had made an unsuccessful attempt. Grasping an armed grenade, he started up the ladder. His wounded right arm weakened, and, as he tried to steady himself, the grenade fell to the floor. In the 5 seconds before the grenade would explode, he dropped down, recovered the grenade and looked for a place to dispose of it safely. Finding no way to get rid of the grenade without exposing his own men or the civilians to injury or death, he turned to the wall, held it close to his body and bent over it as it exploded. 2d Lt. Viale died in a few minutes, but his heroic act saved the lives of others.

They've all been bulldozed

It seems like almost all the Orange groves in the Inland Empire have been bulldozed to make room for all the housing tracts. It's such a shame that they are gone. I have such fond memories of walking to Midland Elementary school, in Sunymead through the groves, ambushing friends, beaning them in the head with Oranges and Grapefruit. Sunnymead used to have alot of groves. Oranges, Grapefruit, Lemons, and Limes. It's such a shame that everyone of them is gone. Now I live in Beaumont, some cherry, plum, apple, and peach orchards still exist but they are quickly being bulldozed also to make room for more housing tracts. A few months ago I was driving through San Timoteo Canyon on the way home from work, and I saw a couple posing for a photo by an Orange tree like it was something special. I guess now it is special since almost all of the groves are gone in the Inland Empire. What once was a Citrus Empire is now an Empire of just alike housing tracts. I just have my memories.

My first three days back with the kids at school.

This year I'm teaching three 8th grade Social Studies classes, one 8th grade Remedial Math class and a Study Skills class (whatever that is). The kids all seem nice, but it's still in the "Honeymoon" period when they are still on there best behavior. My Math class is low and full of some knuckleheads that I'm going to have to keep my thumb on, but it'll all work out. I'm sure they'll be my favorite by the end of the year. why do I always seem to like the Knuckleheads most. I'll struggle with the Study Skills class since I never studied in school myself. How do I teach something that I've never done? We have a new Vice Principal, I'll have to wait and see how she works out. Our last VP that left was a disaster. Ryan's given up on blogging and that's a disappointment, so I have no friends that blog. It'll make it hard to keep posting when I have no one to talk to about it. Steve Oster, my friend and teammate last year left Palm Middle School to teach Science in Riverside, that makes it difficult because I have no one my really to talk to about problems at school. Ryan is a great guy, but he's not married with kids and alot younger, Hopefully he'll understand.

The first to days of the new school year.

Frustration and disappointment are the two words that have best described my first two days of school. The kids haven't arrived yet, they start tomorrow, but things are already a mess. Nothing seems organized and no one seems to understand that we need time to plan and prepare to teach. Both mornings have been filled with useless meetings that don't accomplish anything, but to frustrate me and cause me to get angry. I'm just going to have to let it go.

Home again

It's nice to home and yet I already miss my family. I don't know how to tell my parents how much I miss them sometimes. I think my sister knows. My dad doesn't look well and that makes me feel both angry and sad. Sad that he that he can't play with Izzy and I. Angry because I can't talk to him and tell them how much I still need him. My Mom is in good shape and we had some nice walks with Izzy along the ocean. Kim, my older sister was a big help with Izzy and took the pressure off at times. Time for me to sleep. I have to be at work in the morning. Two days of meetings and then the kids show up on Wednesday.

My wife

I love my wife very much, it makes me sad that sometimes it's hard to tell her how much I love her and miss her when I am away.

Back from my trip

It was an exhausting flight with Izzy back from my parents. The flight out of Arcata was delayed two hours and I missed my connecting flight to Palm Springs in San Francisco. They booked me on a later flight to Palm Springs on Alaskan Airlines, but that meant I had to leave one terminal and walk 15 minutes carrying a two year old and a carry on bag to another terminal. What a mess! The Alaskan Airlines flight was another 45 minutes late so we didn't arrive in Palm Springs until about midnight. I had been scheduled to be home at 9:30 PM. It was a nice vacation and I'm glad my parents and sister, Kim got to see Izzy.

Izzy and I yesterday here at my parents house for a weeklong visit. My parents live in Northern California. About a 13 hour drive or two hour flight from my house. McKinleyville CA. It's called, just North of Arcata and Eureka. It's a nice little place on the coast in the Redwoods. My parents have a nice house right on the ocean. Izzy and I had a nice flight out of Palm Springs with change of planes in San Francisco. Izzy was wonderful and slept most of the trip. Yesterday I went for a long walk on the Hammond trail with Izzy and my older sister, Kim. Worked in my parent's yard with my brother-in-law, Dave, a wonderful guy that I really admire. Today, my Mom, Izzy and I went to church, napped and bbq'd at Kim's house. It's been a nice two days. Posted on my Blackberry.

Last few days and vacation

The last few days have been fairly uneventful. Izzy graduated from her swimming lessons and went down the small water slide at the pool all by herself. She was the only one in her class to go down twice and she enjoyed it both times. All the other toddlers cried and wouldn't go down twice, once was enough for them. Izzy enjoyed it! I'm leaving this morning for a weeks vacation at my parents house, so I won't be posting for awhile. When I get back school with be starting again. Everyone have a nice week.

Just some daily stuff

This morning's swimming lessons went well for Izzy. She's really trying hard to swim on her own, and it's too bad this is the last week for lessons. Next year I'm sure she'll be ready to swim on her own. She kicks and uses her arms, but it just hasn't come together enough yet to keep her afloat. It really wonderful to be in the water with her and see her working so hard. After lunch we came home, had lunch and took an hour nap. Then off Photodriving. Tonight we went for a walk and visited Penny and Krista. I'd like to go back out and take some pictures around Cherry Valley and Beaumont.

Izzy and I went to swimming lessons today. She did so well. She goes underwater and jumps in all by herself. She loves the water. We need to work on her swimming though. Sunday

It's the start of a new week. Izzy and I have swimming lessons everyday at 10:00 AM at the Banning pool and I am really excited about that. Hopefully Lonnie will be transferred out of ICU soon and into a normal room. I'm sure she'd like to see Izzy. I don't have anything planned except, Kiwanis on Wednesday night and AA on Thursday night. Hopefully I can get over to Dean's work and set-up the OS X Server on a fixed IP address, so I can start using it. I'm still not sure what I'll doing with it. I caught myself thinking about "Chili" tonight. It made me feel so bad. It's been over a year since I had to put him down and it still makes me want to cry when I think about him. It's like an empty hole in my heart. He was my little Min Pin. Even when things got rough in my life I always had him to love and he loved me. I still have Candy and Coco, but he's Debbie's dog. Coco is a good dog, but it's not the same. I'll get over this feeling, and I have Izzy. She's sleeping in the "Mama Daddy bed" right now, because of some nightmares, so I'll cuddle with her tonight.

This last week

It seemed like it would never end. My mother-in-law, Lonnie, has been in the hospital this last week. First she was diagnosed with Cancer of the Colon and they operated and removed the cancer. Luckily that went well and they believe that they removed all of it. Then she started having other problems. So she's in ICU at Loma Linda Medical Center getting everything checked out. It's been since last Wednesday that we've been back and forth to the hospital to visit her. I've mostly stayed home with Izzy. I don't feel very comfortable in hospitals and really can't say what I'd like since I'm a private person when it comes to important stuff like that. Sorry for the lack of posting but I've been very busy and haven't felt much like writing. On a good note, Izzy and I have been taking swimming lessons at the new Banning public pool and she's really doing well and isn't afraid of the water. Today was also Izzy's second birthday. we really didn't do anything and that kinda disappointed me, but things have just happened that could not be helped. Hopefully next week we'll have a party for her. It's been over a year now that we've had her and I never thought that I could ever love someone so deeply. She is everything to me. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect little baby daughter. I think it's time for bed. I have church in the morning and I really need to attend services and Sabbath school with Izzy. She really likes Sabbath school and I have alot to pray about tonight and tomorrow.

Izzy's second birthday, it was a small family party, just cake and ice cream. Debbie's mother is still in ICU at Loma Linda Medical Center, so no one much felt like having a big party.

Bad News

Bad news today, Debbie's mom, Lonnie is on the hospital after needing an infusion of blood. She has internal bleeding and a large growth in her colon. Debbie is pretty upset, but she said her mother is pretty upbeat about it. Britty, Izzy and Debbie went to visit Lonnie at the hospital in Hemet. If things come back bad, she's going to be transferred to Loma Linda for treatment. We have friends that work there so we can manage her care better and well being SDA, it's a great hospital. As soon as we know more, I'll let everyone know. I worry to much about things like this, but it's nice that at times like this that I can pray, and I know he'll hear me. I worry about Debbie and Britty also.

An easy day with Izzy

Today was nice, Izzy and I went for a Playday with some people I know at the Seneca Springs Park in town. Then a PBJ sandwich for lunch, a nap and the afternoon in the pool.

Monday

I really didn't accomplish much today, but it was nice just to relax and take it easy. I set-up a nice VPN connection on my OSX server so that I can securely remote the machine from anywhere. Right now I'm drinking a Jones Green Apple soda out front watching the sun set over the rooftops and badlands. A nice day overall and I'm feeling much more relaxed now that the wood laminate flooring is almost done getting installed in the living, dinning and family rooms. The hallways are next and the trim. Then things can be put back in order.

Sunday and Grasshoppers

I accomplished alot and worked hard today. All my yard work was done and I still had time to spend in the pool with Izzy. She's growing so much and it's scary to think she's only two years old. Her 2nd birthday is on July 28th, so if you want to send something like a new MacBook Pro or something like that,it's perfectly fine. Tonight we went out to dinner with Debbie's parents, Marty and Lonnie to Mimi's in Hemet, CA. The food took forever and that's not a good thing when your dealing with a little girl like Izzy. The meal ended up being pretty good even though it took forever to get.

I've been messing around on Facebook and I joined a group called "Grasshoppers." Grasshoppers are motivated, talented people with a shared belief that helping others comes back in good ways to everyone involved. From friendsourcing (finding help with business or personal projects through friends) to building a network of colleagues for future collaboration, Grasshoppers is a group that hopes to answer the question, "How can I help?" It's a neat thought and it's something that needs to happen more often among friends. It was started by Chris Brogan at http:www.chrisbrogan.com.

Another day done

I spent most of the morning with Izzy. A long walk, time in the neighborhood park and out front with Kimmie, Aubrey and Nick playing. I wanted to get somethings done but it just didn't happen. I'll do the yard work on Sunday. I didn't get much sleep last night. Izzy was up and down most of the night. Three more days and the new wood laminate floors will be done and things can get back to normal.
